Our Children at Mooseheart and Seniors at Moosehaven Need Your Help!

I am not kidding when I say they need our help! Our Fraternity has a mission as set down by Moose International. We must provide a family and educational environment for our children at Mooseheart. We need to provide for the needs of our seniors at Moosehaven. It is also our Mission to grow our fraternity and achieve excellence in our fraternal programs and in community service. But how do we do that?
Everything we do at our lodge whether it’s a dinner, a community service project within our community, a family event, a sporting event, a benefit or whatever. It all is very important to our children and seniors. Without these events we would not be able to support Mooseheart and Moosehaven as we do. These things highlight our fraternity within the community, attract new members, and allow us to continue our support. That being said, the only way we can continue our support is to have active committees with members giving of their time to help operate these activities. A committee is not just one or two people it takes many people working together, sharing ideas, and helping out where they can. I would like to ask each of you to look at your schedules and see if there’s not just a little extra time to give our children at Mooseheart and seniors at Moosehaven, and offer to help out on a committee. In many cases it’s not work its actually pretty fun. Our committees I am sure would be glad to work with your schedules and find areas where you could be of help in the amount of time you have to give. We just need you to give that time. The following LOOM committees are currently looking for men and women to join their committees.
Family Activities Committee: Helps organize and choose the events you see at the lodge
Community Service Committee: Helps with fundraisers, community events, Youth awareness, and national causes.
Membership Committee: Works to grow our membership with program and activities. Works on retaining members. Works on member recognition.
Sports Committee: Helps plan and organize our sporting events.
Teen Club Committee: Works with our teenagers to operate a program that puts on events for our teenagers, helps with community service events, and create a number of other activities for our younger members.
Legion Committee: Our second degree of service and works on community service projects as well as other events that support Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Why not look at becoming a legion member.
Bingo Committee: We are also looking for helpers and callers to work Wednesday nights.
So please take the time and strongly consider joining one of these committees. If you are interested just contact one of the Board of Officers and we will get you in touch with the committee chairman for those committees. Remember if you have even a little time to spare that’s fine, our children and seniors are counting on us.

Mooseheart tee ball

For one solid hour on a recent Friday evening, every one of 20 Mooseheart tee-ball players took swings, got base hits and ran the bases. Every now and again, there was a play made on a ball that had been hit.
But when it came time to announce the final score of the first-ever Mooseheart Tee Ball World Series, there was only one possible outcome:  “After a close look at the scoring, we decided it was a tie,” Mooseheart Executive Director and tee ball pitcher Scott Hart said.
That’s probably the fairest result anyway, because from the frequent and nonstop smiles, to the glee in receiving their certificates afterward, it was clear that everyone considered themselves winners anyway.
“I think the people who came out today enjoyed watching the kids play,” Hart said. “They got to see their skill and their excitement for baseball. For those who were around for all six weeks, it was fun for them to see the improvement in their skills and their baseball knowledge.”
The league was made of children aged 3 to 7, and competition took place three times a week since early June. Some of the players were residents of Mooseheart and others were the children of Mooseheart employees. Older Mooseheart students such as Kristen Thornburg and Damion Moore, who will be high school seniors this fall, lent helping hands.
“The kids wanted to put on a good show,” Hart said. “You caught them, a couple of times, hitting the ball and looking back to see who was watching them. The crowd’s enthusiasm really added to the enthusiasm here.” See photos on www.woodstockmoose1329.com.
